Cheer Coaches
AJSA Cheer Coaches are trusted leaders who help create a safe, positive, inclusive, and character-building experience for the young athletes in our community.
Coaching with AJSA is both a privilege and a responsibility. Our cheer coaches help shape the experience athletes remember long after the season ends—not only by teaching cheerleading skills, but also by building confidence, teamwork, communication, leadership, and personal growth.
At its core, Jr Cheer coaching is about creating an environment where every athlete feels encouraged, supported, and valued. Coaches teach age-appropriate sideline cheer fundamentals and a choreographed dance routine while promoting discipline, self-esteem, respect, sportsmanship, and pride in representing Andover Jr Football and Cheer.
We are looking for enthusiastic, team-first coaches who enjoy working with young athletes and understand that youth cheer is about more than routines, chants, or game-day performance. The best coaches lead with patience, communicate clearly, stay organized, support program direction, and represent AJSA with integrity.
These four standards guide how AJSA Cheer Coaches serve athletes, families, squads, and the program.
Prior cheer, dance, gymnastics, or related experience is strongly preferred, particularly for head coach consideration. AJSA may also consider dependable volunteers who are willing to learn, follow program direction, and contribute positively as assistant coaches.
Selected coaches must provide safe, age-appropriate instruction and may not teach or attempt stunts, tumbling, or other skills that exceed their qualifications or the athletes’ readiness, or that fall outside the activities approved by AJSA.
AJSA Cheer Coaches are expected to work cooperatively with athletes, families, fellow coaches, volunteers, and AJSA leadership. We are looking for positive role models who communicate respectfully, avoid gossip and negativity, support the direction of the program, and help create a unified and encouraging experience for everyone involved.
When you step into this role, you are doing more than coaching. You are mentoring, leading, and helping young athletes build confidence, find their voice, and understand what it means to contribute to something larger than themselves.
2026 CHEER COACHES
Thank you for your interest in coaching with the Andover Junior Sports Association’s Jr Cheer program.
AJSA cheer coaches play one of the most important roles in our program. Coaches are expected to teach age-appropriate cheer fundamentals, build confidence, encourage teamwork, model sportsmanship, protect athlete safety, and help create a positive experience for every athlete.
Coaching with AJSA is a privilege and a responsibility. We are looking for team-first leaders who understand that youth cheer is about the athletes and who are willing to represent the program with integrity, patience, professionalism, and respect.
During registration, coaches will review and electronically acknowledge required AJSA coaching documents, including coach conduct expectations, safety protocols, liability waiver information, minor-protection requirements, and Jr Cheer coaching responsibilities.
Coach Registration Requirement
Each person applying to coach must complete their own coach registration using their own email address and cell phone number.
Coach registration may not be completed by a spouse, significant other, parent, or another family member on behalf of the coach. Shared email addresses or another person’s cell phone number may not be used for coach registration.
Required acknowledgments, electronic signatures, background-related information, and coaching documents must be personally reviewed and completed by the individual applying to coach.
Registrations submitted by someone other than the coach, or submitted with another person’s contact information, will not be reviewed or followed up on by AJSA.
Coach registration is the first step in the coaching process. Submission of this registration does not guarantee selection or assignment to a coaching position. Coaching assignments are reviewed and approved by AJSA based on program needs, final registration numbers, squad structure, relevant experience, conduct expectations, and the best interests of the athletes and squads.
If you are ready to lead with purpose and make a positive difference in the lives of young athletes, we would love to have you considered for the AJSA Cheer Coaching Team.
